Name a subject related to the Dead even into the most detailed minutia that has not been spoken about on a thread already here on this board? Facial hair and equipment are already covered.

How about exploring the methods and ramifications of sneaking into a show, and a look at the purpose of such an endeavor?
And more along the lines of individual effort or group scam, not the blatant mass gate crashing or fence jumping that came about near the end.

Nice one Vapors. I'm sure there are tales worth sharing, although I have none personally. Well at least none that I remember!

1984 Merriwether Post -

Raining on and off all day and I heard a rumor there were maybe tickets available for which I had none - So I ran down along the back by the chainlink fence in the rain, through mud and grass and LO I was handed a ticket to the show by a uniformed person, through the chain fence - as were hundreds of others.
The place soon filled up, and I am sure anyone who wanted to get in, did. Anyone else recall such an incident???
Dead Trivia Indeed.

(edit: sorry. PHleshwound made his post seconds before mine...)

Wow. What wild synchronicity in the Capn's post! The first band to legally sample the GD is Animal Collective. Their last album was called Meriweather Post Pavilion, (which they named in homage to the venue where they have claimed, in the 80's they saw a bunch of shows. Not sure if they saw the GD there. Also the song that was sampled was an outtake from that album that was subsequently released on an EP.

If you don't know Animal Collective, they're sort of a modern day prog rock band. Somewhat electronic. A little dense but good psychedelia.

Animal Collective kicks ass. The albums I've heard all sound distinctly different from one another, yet its clearly the same band every time.

They're an interesting live band too: http://www.archive.org/details/AnimalCollective

http://www.cynthiaplastercaster.com/ would be a place to start.

My vote is for Donna to have had the biggest.

Were the remaining fingers in Jerry's "4 fingered" hand "stronger" than those in the other, independent of differences due to playing an instrument?

I would bet the fingers of the left were MUCH stronger, but the wrist on the right was stronger than the fingers.

Have to admit, don't think we've ever talked about that one, eh? Have the judges made a ruling yet? Lou D was always making me really work for my "DEAD trivia game awards", so I am just making sure...not that "award" in this context actually means anything of course, but I can dream. Credenzas and chiffarobes, maybe even a matched set of such furniture from the set of To Kill A Mockingbird? Now that would be a real winner!

Anyone know the first band to be granted a license to sample the dead's music and which piece it was?
